It is generally believed that the bactericidal principle of chlorhexidine is mainly to destroy the infiltration barrier on the bacterial serous membrane (rather than the previous assumption that the ATPase is inactive to achieve the bactericidal effect), low concentration can lead to partial cytoplasmic leakage, and high concentration can cause cytoplasmic condensation and degeneration, thus sterilization.
Application: For gingivitis (acute necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis), oral infection after dental surgery, prevention and treatment of oral infection in patients with cancer and leukemia, stomatitis associated with denture wear caused by bacterial or fungal oral infection, follicular stomatitis, reduce dental plaque. It is also used as a disinfectant for instruments and skin, and as a preservative for eye drops.
