2-Chloronicotinic Acid is used in the preparation of 4-thiazolidinone derivatives and Schiff bases displaying antimicrobial activity.

Because of its special physiological activity, 2-Chloronicotinic acid is widely used as pesticide and pharmaceutical intermediates. It is mainly used to prepare a new high-efficiency herbicide Nicosulfuron, a non steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, a high-efficiency anti-inflammatory analgesic, niflumicalic acid chemicalbook (niflumicid), pranoprofen, an antidepressant mirtazapine, an HIV reverse transcriptase inhibitor and so on.
