Sodium salicylate (formula C7H5NaO3 or NaC6H4(OH)CO2) is a sodium salt of salicylic acid that can be prepared from carbon dioxide at higher temperatures and pressures. Historically, sodium salicylate was obtained by sublimating salicylic acid to react with excess sodium bicarbonate, and then by heating reflux.

Sodium salicylate is a kind of organic matter, chemical formula C7H5O3Na, white scale or powder, odorless, turn pink in long exposure light.Soluble in water, glycerin, insoluble in ether,  benzene and other organic solvents.Flammable in the presence of fire.Mainly used in analgesics and rheumatic drugs, also used in organic synthesis.It is obtained by neutralizing and crystallizing salicylic acid with a base.
