Benzoic acid is an aromatic organic compound and the simplest type of aromatic acid.

Benzoic acid is in white flake, crystal, or powder. It has a mild benzoic or benzyl aldehyde odor. It begins to sublimate at 100ºC.
It's hard to dissolve in water but soluble in boiling water, alcohol, chloroform and ether. Benzoic acid is stable in air.
