Menthol is made in the leaves of peppermint, which is the main component of peppermint oil, and is a type of cyclic monoterpene. It is a highly volatile essential oil produced by plants, and its components are mostly hemiterpenes, monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes, especially in warm climates. Some important plant pigments are terpenoid or terpenoid compounds.

Menthol is an organic compound made synthetically or obtained from corn mint, peppermint, or other mint oils. It is a waxy, crystalline substance, clear or white in color, which is solid at room temperature and melts slightly above.

Function

1. Both menthol and racemic menthol are used as flavoring agents in toothpaste, perfume, beverages and candies.
