Gallic acid soluble in water, alcohol and ether; It has the properties(easy to be oxidized and solution to produce blue-black precipitate) and carboxylic acid (lost carbon dioxide to pyrogallic acid when heated). Gallic acid is used as a developer, and its basic bismuth salt is used as a preservative and is commonly used in the pharmaceutical industry. It's the raw material for the hallucinogenic drug.
