The compound is used in the photoreceptors of photocopiers. Upon exposure to γ-irradiation, N-vinylcarbazole undergoes solid-state polymerisation.

9-vinylcarbazole is an important nitrogen-containing aromatic heterocyclic compound with special photoelectric characteristics, which is in line with the performance of organic photoelectric functional materials, has strong intramolecular electron transfer function and good thermal stability, and is an important intermediate for the synthesis of photoelectric materials.
