Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) is a widely used water-soluble polymer whose properties are between plastic and rubber.

Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVOH, PVA, or PVAl) is a water-soluble synthetic polymer. It has the idealized formula [CH2CH(OH)]n. It is used in papermaking, textile warp sizing, as a thickener and emulsion stabilizer in PVAc adhesive formulations, in a variety of coatings, and 3D printing. It is colourless (white) and odorless. It is commonly supplied as beads or as solutions in water. Without an externally added crosslinking agent, PVA solution can be gelled through repeated freezing-thawing, yielding highly strong, ultrapure, biocompatible hydrogels which have been used for a variety of applications such as vascular stents, cartilages, contact lenses, etc..

Usage

Used in chemical, textile, printing, paper, leather, agriculture, food, medicine, packaging, ceramics, electronics, makeup, construction and other industries. Mainly used as binder, textile auxiliaries, paper auxiliaries, cement additives, emulsifiers, dispersants and so on. Adding water-soluble PVA to putty powder can improve the bonding force, prevent cracking and powder dropping, and be used as emulsifying stabilizer for polyvinyl acetate emulsion polymerization. Used in the manufacture of water-soluble adhesives. Used as a modifier for starch adhesives. It can also be used to prepare photosensitive adhesives and benzol-resistant sealants. Also used as release agent, dispersant and so on.

Application

1.In the textile industry , they are mainly used as yarn pulp, fabric finishing agents, and raw materials of vinylon fibers;

2. In the construction and decoration industries, they can be used as mortar cement additives, paint additives for interior and exterior walls, and molding plate adhesives;

3.In the chemical industry, they can be used as polymerization emulsifiers, dispersants, and raw materials for the production of PVF

4. In lumbering and paper-making industries, they can be used as adhesives;

5. In agriculture, they can be used as soil improvers, pesticide adhesion synergist and PVA film;

6. In petroleum exploitation, they can be used as well-cementing agents.

7. In addition, they can also be used in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, printing ,ceramics, steel, electronics, electroplating, and so on.
