Triethyl citrate is an ester of citric acid. It is a colorless, odorless liquid used as a food additive (E number E1505) to stabilize foams, especially as whipping aid for egg white. It is also used in pharmaceutical coatings and plastics.

Triethyl citrate is also used as a plasticizer for polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and similar plastics.

Triethyl citrate has been used as a pseudo-emulsifier in e-cigarette juices. It functions essentially like lecithin used in food products, but with the possibility of vaporization which lecithin does not have.

Triethyl citrate is a non-toxic plasticizer that is widely used as a plasticizer for cellulose resins and vinyl resins. As a leavening and shape-retaining agent in food, it can well improve the foaming performance of baked foods and improve puffiness. In the loose state, it is used as an antioxidant to stabilize soybean oil, salad oil, margarine, shortening and other Chemicalbook edible fats. As a flavoring agent, it can be used to add flavor to soft drinks, candies, and baked goods. It is also used as a chelating agent. and carrier solvent.
